Meteor Hunting Safaris is a family operated business which covers three game hunting concessions and one wing shooting safari in South Africa. We are not a volume outfitter thus prefer to cater to one individual hunter and his or her family. All the hunts are custom planned to accommodate your wishes and desires. Our safaris cover a variety of different styles of hunting, whether you like to bow hunt, or prefer to use a rifle and shotgun. Kindly note that hunts are very limited due to high demand, so early bookings are essential. We hope that you will arrive as guests and leave as friends.
Bow hunters have a choice of both taking part in walk and stalk hunts or enjoy shooting from well-positioned blinds. Rifle hunts are only done via the walk and stalk method. Because of the variety and diversity of terrain offered by our different concessions, our clients are able to successfully hunt a wide variety of plains game. All our hunts take place in malaria and bilharzia-free areas.
Compared to many other countries the southern sub-continent has a fairly mild climate but temperature extremes do occur from time to time. During summer (October to March) temperatures can climb as high as 35° Celsius but our winters (April to September) can induce very cold spells. Maximum temperatures hover around 20° to 35° Celsius between 10am and 4pm in summer time but during true cold spells the temperature can plummet to -8° in certain areas during the night and early mornings. Frost is common early in the morning but it rarely snows. Our days are generally very sunny which allows for hunters to wear comfortable clothes and provides for a dry safari experience overall.
The preferred choice of clothing is mostly wearing camouflage shirts, pants, and jackets. We highly recommend a good pair of footwear (boots or hiking shoes) and cannot reinforce this point enough. There is nothing which can ruin a hunt quicker than to walk with blisters on your feet. Additionally, know your equipment well, ensure your shoes are walked in prior to arrival (new footwear is a NO-NO), do not forget your camera, and if you like to carry optics, a good pair of 8 or 10x42 binoculars will do the job.
